From 17th July to 19th July 2023, US Trade Representative, Katherine Tai, was scheduled to visit Nairobi, Kenya to co-chair a meeting of the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council between the United States and the East African Community (EAC). The U.S.-EAC TIFA was celebrating its fifteenth anniversary during this summit, which also coincides with the Biden-Harris Administration's increased involvement with Kenya and other countries on the continent. Ambassador Tai was to meet with President William Ruto, Cabinet Secretary for Trade Moses Kuria, and Cabinet Secretary for EAC and Arid and Semi-Arid Lands Rebecca Miano during this visit. She was also scheduled to meet with Meg Whitman, the US Ambassador. She was additionally to meet with labour stakeholders, members of Kenya’s civil society, local businesses, and private sector representatives to discuss opportunities for increased cooperation with the US and together with Meg Whitman, she would meet with local youth and women entrepreneurs and discuss how the two countries can promote inclusive trade and economic prosperity for all.
